PORCELAIN VENEERS

Crafting Beautiful Smiles With Outstanding Results

Porcelain veneers are a great option for closing gaps, straightening teeth or disguising discoloured teeth that do not respond to whitening procedures. The veneers are thin layers of porcelain that have been made bespoke to cover your existing teeth.

Before and After

This patient was very unhappy with the shape of their teeth. Porcelain veneers were fitted to four front teeth to increase their size and improve the shape. The porcelain was coloured to look natural and fit in with the patient’s existing teeth.

This patient was unhappy with the appearance of his upper teeth, particularly decay under a previously restored tooth. Treatment required stabilisation of the decay and placement of 6 porcelain veneers to the front upper teeth.

This patient disliked the shape of her teeth. Treatment required placement of four porcelain veneers to the upper teeth, carefully matching the colour with the existing teeth for a very natural result.

HARD-WEARING PORCELAIN

What Can We Do

An advantage of porcelain veneers is that porcelain is extremely hard-wearing and less likely to chip than composite veneers. Porcelain also reacts in light in a similar way to natural teeth so as to produce the most natural looking finish possible.

FURTHER INFORMATION

Truly Bespoke Veneers Tailored to Your Needs

Porcelain veneers can be made to be a flawless bright white, or more natural tones, and can even incorporate staining so as to fit in seamlessly with the existing teeth. It really is up to you! During your consultation we will discuss the outcome you would like to achieve and advise the best options to realise this.

Your teeth will need preparation in advance of the veneers being fitted. The preparation involves removing the top layer of enamel from your teeth and changing the structure and shape of your teeth to accommodate the veneers. This work will be as minimal as possible, and the extent depends on the shape and alignment of your teeth. We will discuss this with you during your initial appointment.

Following the preparatory work we will take impressions of your teeth and then send them to a specialist dental laboratory so they can make the porcelain veneers. The veneers will then be fitted at your next appointment. In between appointments we are able to fit temporary veneers to cover the prepared teeth, so you do not feel self-conscious about your appearance.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Your fitting appointment typically takes place 2 weeks after the impressions were taken. The veneers are attached to your teeth using a strong adhesive bond. It will take some time for you to get used to the feel and function of the veneers so you will then be invited to return to Carew Dental for another appointment around 2 weeks after fitting, where we will make any adjustments.

To care for your porcelain veneers you should maintain good oral hygiene, regularly brushing and flossing just as you would for your natural teeth. Porcelain veneers are the strongest cosmetic treatment for improving your teeth and can last many years and are less likely to chip than composite veneers. Possible issues can be the veneer requiring refitting to the tooth if it comes away, or in the case of a chip it will need to be replaced.
